Getting Started In R/C Skydiving

We will start right at the beginning. R/C Skydiving is alot like the real thing. You need a jump plane, skydiver, and a few people. The only differance is all of our equipment is Radio Controlled. For this reason you will need atleast two people to R/C Skydive. R/C Skydiving is a growing sport. We are trying to get more people involved every year. We do have jump ralleys just as Helicopters have jamborees or airplanes have fly-ins. We usually see between 15 to 35 pilots at a jump ralley.

Lets move onto "How" we R/C Skydive. First off we have a trainer type aircraft rigged up to have a release on the bottom of the plane. This trainer type aircraft should be atleast a 60 size trainer with plenty of power to skydive successfully with one of our standard size skydivers. Also you will need a plane with a tall enough landing gear so the skydiver has room under the plane. Sometimes you can change the landing gear or add bigger tires to accomodate the skydiver. You need about 5 inches of ground clearance for a standard size skydiver. As far as the skydivers, most people start off with our standard series. This gives you a nice size skydiver that is easy to see but not so big you need special equipment. If you are into electrics by all means get the micro skydiver.

OK, now you have everything, just a matter of all the ground preparation. Don't overlook this, it is one of the most critical areas of ALL skydiving. First get the plane all ready and take it for a test flight to make sure everythings ok with it. Then right before you get ready to go up, pack up the skydivers chute per instructions. Strap the little guy to the bottom of the plane and your ready to go. Take off and climb to a safe altitude. when both the pilot of the plane and the skydiver pilot are ready, drop the skydiver up wind. Now the controls are up to the skydiver pilot. During freefall you should not move any controls, until your ready to pop the chute. Once the chute is open your flight begins. Fly him around like the full scale boys do. Try to spot land him in front of your feet, this does take some practice. Once you get next to the ground, flair for a toe touch landing. Now you ready to pack up the chute and go again!

This is just a small introduction into the world of R/C Skydiving. Once you do it ,or see someone else, you will be addicted.

As far as what you need to purchase, you will need a jump plane, skydiver, drop box, and radio equipment for all. All of our skydivers accept differant radio gear, so please check out the shopping cart area for the radio equipment that your choice of skydivers needs.
